How Raymond serial numbers work
Since 1977: three digits (model identifier) - two digits (year of manufacture, last two digits of the year) - five digits (production sequence), e.g. 020-77-11818 = 1977. Pre-1977 Raymonds use a different sequence where the year comes from the production number (lookup needed; no table published). [src]
Worked example: 020-77-11818
| Series / model code | 020 |
|---|---|
| Production sequence | 11818 |
| Model year | 1977 |

Where is the Raymond serial number?
The nameplate (data plate / data tag) is often near the dashboard, usually left or right of the steering wheel, sometimes left or right of the driver's seat; usually a silver plate reading Raymond at the top. If missing, the serial is often stamped on the chassis in the power section, usually under the controller. Shop work-order numbers are also stamped on the frame and are not serial numbers.

These rules come from the sources listed, which are aftermarket parts sellers, not the manufacturer. When the data plate shows a manufacture date, the plate wins.
