Floor scrubber productivity calculator

Theoretical floor scrubber / sweeper productivity: theoretical_sqft_per_h = (cleaning_path_in / 12) x scrubbing_speed_mph x 5,280. Enter your numbers below; the formula and its source are shown under the result. Part of this calculation is derived by Warehouse Machines from sourced inputs.

Updated

If the machine's spec sheet prints an estimated actual rate, trust that over the efficiency default.

The formulas

Theoretical floor scrubber / sweeper productivity

theoretical_sqft_per_h = (cleaning_path_in / 12) x scrubbing_speed_mph x 5,280

Monster Janitorial: theoretical productivity is calculated from cleaning width and travel speed under near-ideal operating conditions (no turns, overlap, refills or dumps). Use the scrubbing speed, not the transport speed. 5,280 ft per mile and 12 in per ft are unit conversions.

Worked example: Check against the Tennant T5 sheet, which prints a scrubbing speed of 2.5 mph and Theoretical Max productivity per path: 24 in: 2 ft x 2.5 mph x 5,280 = 26,400 sq ft/h (printed 26,400); 28 in: 30,800 (printed 30,800); 32 in: 35,200 (printed 35,200).

Estimated actual (practical) productivity

practical_sqft_per_h = theoretical_sqft_per_h x efficiency; default efficiency 0.68 = Tennant T5 Estimated Actual (Conventional) / Theoretical Max

Derived by Warehouse Machines from T5 Battery-Powered Walk-Behind Scrubber Specifications, disk (Tennant): no single source states this formula, so treat the result as an estimate.

Tennant's Estimated Actual figures use the practical speed and empty/fill time standards from the 2004 ISSA Cleaning Times handbook. The 0.68 default is computed by Warehouse Machines from the T5 sheet's own figures (24 in 17,875 / 26,400 = 0.677; 28 in 20,800 / 30,800 = 0.675; 32 in 24,000 / 35,200 = 0.682). It describes one model; when a machine's sheet publishes its own estimated actual rate, use that.

Worked example: Tennant T5 28 in: the sheet prints 30,800 sq ft/h Theoretical Max and 20,800 sq ft/h Estimated Actual (Conventional); 20,800 / 30,800 = 0.675.

Required practical productivity for a cleaning window

required_practical_sqft_per_h = cleanable_sqft / available_hours; hours_needed = cleanable_sqft / practical_sqft_per_h

Leave margin because published ratings are often theoretical (source).

Worked example: Monster Janitorial: 40,000 sq ft / 2 h = 20,000 practical sq ft/h required.
